Designed in the early 2000s, the PSI 630 built on the foundation established by the 605 and brought thermal transient testing into a more automated production environment.
The 630 retained the same core test method: applying a controlled current pulse to a bridgewire-type EED and measuring the resulting thermal response. It added automatic nulling, digital control of test parameters, data capture, test logging, and automated calculation of EED characteristics.
The system could be operated locally with a monitor and keyboard or controlled by a host computer through GPIB. With remote triggering, characteristic waveform output, and TTL pass/fail signals, the 630 was well suited for engineering labs, quality assurance, and production screening applications that required repeatable testing and external system integration.
As a legacy product, the 630 represents the transition from manually operated thermal transient testing to the automated architecture used in later Pasadena Scientific systems.
